Bareback Records

Bareback Records

Female group version of the Bobby Womack song - done quite well with a good, almost gritty lead singer, complete with orchestra, strings etc - well worth a listen if you haven't heard it! The flip side "Good man" is an ok version of one by the Bobbettes on RCA I believe. Strangely the US release of this was on Mayhew - made and distributed by Bearback records with a Bearback number (MBB 532) Even more strange is the fact that this UK release, along with the one by Limmie & Family Cookin' were given a Bearback label - but were made and distributed by Pye records, not Ember who sent out the press release & in fact released at least 2 more Bearback records on Ember itself! - Does anyone know why?
Limmie & Family Cookin' - "I can stop" - EMBS 354 (1977)Yes the old "You can do magic" / "A walkin' miracle" group – with a fairly lightweight pop / soul song - with a riff coming out of the Isley Brothers "This old heart of mine". Not particularly outstanding - but ok. The ballad flip "Only a movie" came out in the States as a separate Bareback release - if it wasn't for Limmie, the lead vocalist's twee voice, this might have been a decent song, - shame!
