Eddie Holman, March 99, Lowton

From the very moment he walked on stage, you sensed that you were in for something special. Immaculately dressed in a bright red Gucci suit, with a black and gold shirt, Eddie was "The Man".
After a rapturous welcome from the Lowton Civic Hall crowd, the band struckup the opening bars of his first number, on bounds Eddie and immediately starts to sing .......I don't drive a big fast car, I don't dress like a movie star.....etc.... "Eddie's My Name" and within just 10 seconds he had the crowd right in the palm of his hand.
Eddies' falsetto style of singing has earned him a unique place in Soul music, nobody does it quite so well, his voice has matured, like good wine and he still retains the ability to hit those high notes.
Eddie performed all his favourites including Hurt, Where I'm not wanted, I Surrender, Stay mine for heaven's sake, talking to the audience inbetween each song, with information about the inspiration behind the writing and recording process. Midway through his set we were treated to his two big selling ballad numbers, It's all in the game and Hey there lonely girl, both of these were sung absolutely note perfect, at this stage the crowd were stunned, I witnessed people in tears, such was the emotion and soul in the singing, a voice was heard from the crowd shouting "I don't believe it"
Eddie finished his set with the 1977 Salsoul issued "This will be a night to remember", but do you think that the crowd were going to let him go, no way, Eddie was back on stage and treated us to a song that he said he had never performed live before, I'm not going to give up, a beautiful deep soul masterpiece, written by Eddie (featured on Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures 2). Once again, the range that he hit with his vocals was stunning.
When Eddie finished, the crowd were like a football crowd, chants of Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, brought him back and persuaded him to do yet another song, he'd already featured it earlier in his set, but "She's wanted in 3 states", which he co wrote, and was given to Larry Clinton to perform, has always been a huge record for the Northern Soul devotees and was a natural finishing number for him.
The night was originally billed as "This will be a night to remember" and the many attendees, will take home the memory of probably one of The greatest live performances of all time.
Mention should also be made of the band, a group of professional musicians, whose arrangements and playing, managed to recreate a true feel of how the records originally sounded.
